North Korea-United Nations peace talks extended
There seems to be an endless period to the debate on the North Korea Nuclear policies as US top Nuclear envoy decided to extend his stay in North Korea and held more talks in order to break an impasse over the communist country’s nuclear program. The United States Diplomat-Christopher Hill, had gone to Korea to meet with his North Korean counterpart at what could have been described as a “reclusive” Korean invitation as at 2nd of October, 2008. The process that will lead to the destruction of North Korea’s Nuclear programme has been stalled since the country abandons a 2007 disarmament-for-aid pact in August-the reason for this is the United State’s refusal to remove Korea from a terrorist black-list. The United States has stated that the refusal to remove Korea from the Terrorist black list states is due to the fact that Korea has rejected the agreement to submit itself to a thorough verification of its Nuclear accounting.
North Korea has been defiant against calls for it to submit itself to Scrutiny and the country’s ruler has continue to propose ways of adjusting the sequencing of steps North Korea must take as part of verification. North Korean president is willing to submit details of his country’s verification agreement to his allies before agreeing to any United Nations verifying programme. The United Nations has however declared that the only reason it would remove North Korea from the blacklists of Terrorist states is for the latter to agree to the proposed United Nations verification exercises- a process that is to discomforting for the Korean leader.
